Our role

The Northwestern Economic Zone is bordered by Motorway M35 and Main Road No. 33, just a few kilometres from Debrecen. It covers a total area of 620 hectares, which includes the 400-hectare investment area of the BMW Group, a 100-hectare supplier park, as well as the surrounding service roads, logistics units, and utility networks. Development related to the zone began in 2018. The Municipality of Debrecen has entrusted its fully owned company, Debreceni Infrastructure Development Ltd., with project management, technical supervision, and engineering tasks related to infrastructure development and construction.

The 100-hectare supplier park to be realized within the Northwestern Economic Zone plays a key role in the economy of Debrecen and supports the operation of the BMW Group’s electric vehicle factory built nearby. DIF oversees project management for businesses investing in the area, including ZF, the Schedl Group, and EVE Power, on behalf of the Municipality of Debrecen. This role ensures the successful implementation of their developments and supports their future operations.

We are building 9,483 meters of roads—the equivalent of 24 standard athletic tracks.
We are constructing 25 kilometres of open ditches, long enough to host an open water long-distance swimming event.
We are installing a closed stormwater drainage system 4,200 meters in length, equalling to 83 Olympic swimming pools.
The constructed telecommunications infrastructure would reach as far as Nyíregyháza, as it is over 50 km long.

Infrastructure developments

The development of the existing infrastructure network to ensure the accessibility of the economic zone, along with the construction of necessary new elements, is divided into two main components: municipal investments and state investments, with the latter including road and rail infrastructure.
State investments
In case of state investments related to developing the economic zone, our company was responsible for coordinating and organizing efforts between state and city projects. State projects included the construction of motorway interchanges, capacity-increasing investments on main roads, and the development of railway line no. 108. The goal was to build utilities and infrastructure capable of meeting and supporting industrial demands.
Municipal investments
In the municipal projects, our company handles comprehensive technical project management tasks, such as site preparation, construction project management, technical inspection, and project engineering. These include the coordination of site preparation necessary for the investments, and planning tasks related to the municipal road network, as well as design review tasks. A principal task is also to lead construction projects related to the implementation of new municipal roads, intersections, as well as new utility routes directly connected to them, representing the interests of the client. The aim is to develop an innovative economic zone by constructing adequate utilities and infrastructure. This includes implementing bicycle and road connections, as well as establishing a utility network designed to support industrial capacities.

Urban road improvements

Bajor Road

This road section ensures the northern connection and access of the industrial park to the newly completed Józsa junction on Motorway M35. The main role of this road section is to manage the incoming heavy traffic, which takes place on a 2x2 lane road surface. At the end of the road section, a two-lane roundabout junction has been constructed.

Northern Service Road

The Northern Service Road ensures the flow of freight and passenger traffic between the northern connection and the Western Boundary Road, and provides access to the industrial park through the junctions established along the road section.

Eastern Boundary Road

This completed road section ensures the connection between the northern and southern parts of the industrial park on the eastern side of the area. Currently, the road section has been built with a 2x1 lane surface, but the possibility of expanding to 2x2 lanes in the future is also ensured.

Southern Access Road

This completed road section ensures access to the industrial park from the Main Road No. 33, and has been constructed with 2x2 lanes.

Debrecen–Józsa Access Road

The role of this road section is to ensure the connection between the industrial park and Józsa, which has been constructed with 2x1 lanes, following the route of a dirt road running parallel to the motorway.

Southern Boundary Road

This road section ensures the southern connection and access of the industrial park to Motorway M35 and Main Road No. 354. A three-lane roundabout junction with an inner radius of R100 metres has been built at the eastern end of the road section. The road section has been constructed with 2x2 lanes. At the junction with the Eastern Boundary Road, a grade-separated junction has been constructed.

Western Boundary Road

This completed road section ensures the connection between the Northern Access Road and the Main Road No. 33, between the roundabout junctions completed on the two road sections, constructed with 2x1 lanes. There is no need to consider expansion to 2x2 lanes on this section in the future.

Bicycle paths

Along the completed road sections, bicycle traffic is ensured, either as independent two-way cycle paths on separate verges or by paving dirt roads parallel to the constructed roads. Furthermore, the roads currently under construction will also be provided with bicycle paths accordingly.

Supplier park infrastructure

The 100-hectare area requires a proper level of internal infrastructure, road, and utility supply to meet the needs of investors, in line with existing and planned elements, enabling the servicing of industrial areas. The Internal Service Road will start from the northeastern roundabout and will run within the 100-hectare area, then connect to the Northern Service Road on the western side of the area. Two additional access roads have been planned within the 100-hectare area, ensuring road connections and access to investor areas. Pedestrian and bicycle traffic will also be accommodated within the planning area, with connections to the planned bicycle facilities in the surrounding areas.
